2003-2004 Rule Changes:

Here is a brief summary of the changes for Wright Stuff in 2003-2004

2003-2004 Rule Changes

Division B:
Division B models have the most changes this year. The models are smaller in size, but are allowed to have a larger prop. The wingspan must be less than 40cm and the chord must be less than 10 cm. The stabilizer can not be larger than 30cm in span, and the maximum prop size allowable is now 18.5cm. The rubber limit is still 2 grams, and the minimum weight of the model without rubber is still 8 grams.

Division C:

Division C models are very similar to last years models. The wingspan has been increased to 52cm, and the wing chord increased to 13cm. The propellor has been increased to 24cm diameter and the stabilizer is limited to a 37cm span. The larger size of the model and larger propellor will make for a much longer flying model. The rubber limit is still 2 grams, and the minimum weight of the model without rubber is still 8 grams.
Last years Division C models are still legal under the current rules. All that would be needed is to remove the landing gear and wheels from the model (making sure it is still 8 grams!!!). However, to take advantage of the new rules, a new model should be built.

Both Classes:

The best rule change in my opinion is the changes to the propellors for both B and C divisions. No longer is the propellor required to be a one piece molded plastic propellor. Now they just have to be commercially available plastic propellors which allows the use of the Ikara 12" Bulldog prop which is made in the Czech republic. This plastic propellor when trimmed to size, is a little over 2 grams in weight and save you a lot of trouble of having to scrap the old style plastic propellor blades down from 7 grams to 2 grams. This was one of the most frustrating parts for students and teachers. Many models were overweight because people were afraid to scrap off too much from the old plastic props. Now that issue has gone away with the allowing of the Ikara prop. Additionally, Ikara sells a special prop hanger and rear rubber hook which is used on the new model designs, and will help get your model in the air faster.

The Ribbon Drop:
Another rule change for this year is to award bonus time for dropping a ribbon off of your model during a certain time interval. This rule applies at the state and national level of competition. I have decided that to give all the secrets away would just not be right or fun. There are many ways to make the ribbon drop, but if you are going to be flying at that level of competition, I do not think all the answers should be given to you in a 'cut and paste' method.  Therefore, no section on using a timer will be on the disk. Use your own ingenuity. I will however, get you pointed in the right direction!  You may wish to do an internet keyword search for 'silly putty timer' or 'viscous timer'. Good Luck!!!
