The wing needs to be properly positioned on the model to ensure the model will fly correctly. The plans show that the balance point of the model needs to be 2.375" (60.3mm) BEHIND the trailing edge of the wing. This balance point is with the model assembled and WITH a 2 gram rubber motor.

The Division B models must weigh 8 grams. With the new Ikara plastic props, the ability to get the model underweight is much easier to do than before. If you use the wood selection guide and build the model as instructed your model should be about 6.5 grams at this point (prop, body, boom, wing, stab and fin). This means we will need 1.5 grams of modeling clay (ballast) to bring the model up to weight. The benefit of this is that we can place the ballast anywhere on the model to bring it up to weight and to make the model balance where we need it. Ideally for the "Olympus B" model, the wing should be mounted 1" from the nose of the model, as shown on the plan. The easiest method for locating the wing would be to mount the leading edge 1" from the front of the nose, then position the ballast towards the back of the model to make the model balance 2.375' behind the wing with the 2 gram rubber motor.

If your model is closer to the 8 grams or over 8 grams, I suggest you still try the 1" nose position as a starting point. The design of the model is such that a wide range of model weights will still allow the model to balance properly with a 1" long nose. However, you may find it necessary to move the wing forward or backward slightly to make it balance correctly if you have no ballast to move around. If the nose has to be longer than 2" then the tailboom is too heavy or the stab is built to heavy and they should be rebuilt to correct the tail heavy condition.
